With the internet becoming the #1 source for people to find the information and products they want, it’s no surprise that it’s also becoming the first place people looking to do research about an individual, product or brand. For that reason, literally millions of dollars are being spent each year on online reputation repair services by people wanting to get rid of or hide bad publicity and reviews that appear online.
Some consumers feel that such services are ethical since they hide possible truths about individuals or companies that they might otherwise be interested and willing to work with. On the other side of the coin however is the fact that a large portion of what’s said online is either the opinion of someone (not actual facts) and/or it’s simply a lie. Whatever the case, this service is becoming more and more common, and as the days go by it seems that it’s an online marketing tactic that isn’t going away anytime soon. Here’s why:

That doesn’t mean that bad reviews or publicity about a person or individual can be deleted or removed off of the internet with the click of a button or for a certain amount of money. Instead, it comes down to the experts know how to hide the information, and sometimes have it deleted entirely… but such marketing tactics can take quite a bit of time, and it can be very expensive.
2) Marketers That Provide ORM Services Make Good Money
Is this fair? Well… it depends who you ask. If you’re a brand who’s reputation, both online and offline, is your most valuable asset, you’d probably do just about anything to protect it; especially if it results in you being able to make good money from it. Additionally, while it’s not “difficult” to get rid of or hide negative publicity that appears in the search engines… it is quite tedious and time consuming. In many instances, digital marketers and companies that provide these services ethically and effectively have entire teams of people trying to accomplish their targets for the reputation management service being offered.
For those and other reasons this isn’t a marketing tactic that would be considered “cheap”, but again… for many people it’s worth every $0.01.
Yes, ORM services are not cheap and as a result of the number of successful campaigns that have been implemented… this form of internet marketing is probably not going anywhere; instead it could potentially get even more expensive. However, the only way to benefit from these services is not to pay a digital marketing expert to take care of this for you, due to the fact that it’s one of the “easiest” forms of digital marketing out there.
